With the success of the DragoN Stereo Amp Rogue was looking to make a defining statement with their award winning tube/Class D hybrid amplifiers. An amplifier that blends brute power with musicality, finesse, and accuracy. Amplifiers that authoritatively control virtually any loudspeakers.
These new amplifiers are much more than simply a tube circuit placed in front of a class D output section. Our proprietary tubeD circuit topology actually integrates the tube section into the amplifier yielding the smooth natural sound that only a tube amp can provide. With uncanny accuracy the Dragon Monoblocks deliver stunning dynamics and transparency without any of the edgy, etched, or grainy sound that often accompanies solid state designs.
A low power standby mode allows critical components to remain on and fully warmed up without wasting electricity or tube life. A slow start feature allows the tubes to warm up gradually to eliminate turn-on noise and greatly extend tube life. Three massive linear power supplies are used to power the amplifier circuitry and ultra-high quality parts are used throughout the amplifier. "The DragoN uses a tubed input stage and Hypex's NCore MOSFET class-D module in the output stage. Rogue says that a global feedback circuit that includes the front-end's ECC802S tube forces the class-D output to behave (and sound) like a tube circuit.
There are balanced and single-ended inputs. The specified power is 325W into 8 ohms and 525W into 4 ohms. JD used a pair of Rogue DragoNs to power his ESS hybrid-electrostatic loudspeakers and concluded that the monoblocks unveiled new takes on his favorite recordings.

On the test bench, the DragoN clipped at 127W into 8 ohms and 226W into 4 ohms, both powers lower than specified, though the amplifier exceeded the specified powers if the clipping definition was relaxed from 1% to 3%. Distortion was relatively high in level, even at moderate powers, but fortunately, the distortion signature was predominantly the subjectively innocuous second harmonic.
JA concluded that the Rogue DragoN's measured performance is dominated by the use of a tube in the input stage. "This amplifier offers high power," he wrote, "but with high levels of second-harmonic distortion." (Vol.47 No.3 WWW)"
